As a young child I suffered with childhood ear infections and in my teens went thru repeating bouts of bronchitis and severe seasonal allergies. I learned from an early age that medications were not a solution.
This created a dilemma, because I wanted to go to medical school but I didn’t believe in just treating symptoms without finding the cause of the problems. Thankfully, this led me to Chiropractic school where I learned to find the cause of the problems versus just treating the symptoms. I have been under Chiropractic care since 1985 and have been a Chiropractor since 1990.
I had never felt better health wise, but despite this, over the years my health was slowly deteriorating until 18 years later, I found myself weighing about 260 lbs (I am only 5’7”), diagnosed with Sarcoidosis, suffering from stress and anxiety so severe that I couldn’t fall asleep at night. When I lay in bed, I would hear my heart pounding in my head with my mind racing for hours. It got to the point that I would stay up until the “wee” hours of the morning so that I could just fall asleep from sheer exhaustion. This eventually wound up with a middle of the night trip to the emergency room with chest and left shoulder and arm pain, nausea, numbness in my neck, etc – all the classic signs of a heart attack. After all sorts of poking, probing, and testing they diagnosed me with gastric reflux (this can exactly mimic a heart attack) and wanted to put me on Prilosec.
I declined, opting to improve my diet instead. I cleaned up my diet and it helped somewhat, but something was missing. I didn’t have the typical “fat guy” diet and was not eating excessive amounts of food, yet I couldn’t lose any weight and my symptoms continued (not the heart attack ones, but all the others).
Then I was introduced to Nutrition Response Testing and it turned my life around. Within a short time of being on a “proper” nutritional program, I began feeling the best I had felt in years, with dramatic improvements in my symptoms. I was so amazed and intrigued with this technology that I dedicated myself to becoming a Master at this science. Now, even though I was feeling great, I had only lost about 10 lbs or so after 7 months. It was then that the testing started to reveal other things that my body was finally “ready and able” to handle.
Over the next 5 months or so, I lost another 60+ lbs (without any exercising – not what I would recommend, but I never made the time for it). I was feeling the best that I could ever remember feeling, and was continuing to improve. It took some time, and I am still improving, but I had 40+ years of built up junk to deal with. If this process takes me 2 years, or even 3-4 years, so what, I have many years ahead of me and want to be here for my family. My body is rebuilding, we are not just treating and covering up symptoms, so, I have accepted that it will take as long as it takes.
To me it’s well worth it.
