Pregnancy and birth are natural processes of life in which we have been participating for millions of years. Despite this, more and more couples are having difficulty conceiving and women are experiencing health issues during pregnancy, labors requiring medical intervention, postpartum depression and feeding problems. Needless to say, this can be a draining experience during what should be a happy, exciting time.
Fertility issues are not only extremely stressful emotionally, but also financially. Many couples are forced to spend tens of thousands of dollars on numerous alternative conception methods with no guarantee of success. There are many factors that can interfere with a couples ability to conceive. In our practice, we have had great success helping bodies improve and/or restore their overall health (with nutrition and chiropractic) so that they can naturally conceive and be prepared for a healthy pregnancy.
Once a patient is pregnant, we continue to focus on maintaining and expanding upon her health to give her the best possible pregnancy. Research has shown that chiropractic care results in a reduction of many of the typical associated symptoms and complications during pregnancy and the birth process. In addition, it is of utmost importance that a pregnant woman’s nutrition be maintained once she is eating for two. There are many misconceptions about how a woman should be eating during pregnancy and we can help guide our patients through this confusion. For example, traditional prenatal supplements, which are frequently recommended, are in fact chemical substitutions for the vitamins and minerals that are naturally found in food. Our patients usually opt for whole food supplements, specifically tailored to them as individuals, to ensure that they have the proper nutrients for a healthy pregnancy.
In recent years, breech pregnancies have led to concerned moms seeking out doctors certified in the Webster Breech Turning Technique. Not only is Dr. Furno certified in this technique, he was taught and mentored by Dr. Larry Webster himself. Although an expert in this technique, Dr. Furno only needs to perform this technique on women who have been referred with a breech condition. It is almost never necessary for our moms to be who are under our care throughout their pregnancy.
We can work with whomever our future moms choose for their upcoming birth process. We have moms who choose a traditional hospital birth with an OBGYN, a hospital birth with a midwife and doula, or a home birth with a midwife and doula. Our goal is to help educate and provide resources so that each patient has the information she needs to choose what will work best for her.
The fun doesn’t stop once the baby is born. As a matter of fact, it’s only just the beginning. At this time, we help new moms maintain their health at its optimum potential so that they can remain as functional as possible to take care of this new addition. We have been able to help our moms with everything from postpartum depression and fatigue to breastfeeding difficulties. Also, the best time to introduce children to nutrition and chiropractic care is when they are newborns. This way they are starting life off on the right foot and avoid growing up with the common health problems we are seeing in children today. Be sure to check out our pediatric section.
